Professional History and Experience

Bracewell Engineering, Inc., Oakland, CA

Project Engineer and Principal, 1982 to date

Project Engineer and Manager for current and historical projects: design and construction for upgrading the City of Auburn treatment plant toultraviolet disinfection and improving the existing pond treatment system in conjunction with the existing oxidation ditchto producetertiary quality effluent. Consult with the City of Auburn to improve treatment plant discharge compliance, to successfully defend against acitizen lawsuit related to alleged treatment plant discharge violations and consulted with the City in solving collection system problems thatwere causing pollution of urban drainage basins. Design a tertiary domestic wastewater treatment plant consisting of a drumscreen, sequencing batch reactor, filtration, ultraviolet disinfection, and sludge dewatering. Design of a microfiltration water treatment system to meet the Enhanced Long TermSurface Water Treatment Rule for Cuesta LaHonda Guild. Design for a reverse osmosis treatment system for a development in San Benito County. Design of a pump station for the Cityof Vallejo’s water system. Conduct seminars on anaerobic digestion and microcomputers in wastewater systems. Aid in the development of microcomputer based sewer models for the Cities of Hollister (CA),Vallejo (CA), and Nashville (TN). Design of wastewater treatment plant expansion for the City of Hollister. Evaluation study of sludge disposal needs, methods, and costs at the Water Pollution Control Plant in theCity of Sunnyvale. Feasibility studies and designs regarding the expansion of wastewater treatment and disposal facilities at Oceana Marin for the North Marin Water District. Construction of low pressure sewers and septic tank/ mound/pond treatment and disposal system in Napa. Sludge disposal, algae removal, sewer pretreatment program and energy efficiency studies at wastewater treatment plant in the City of Sunnyvale. Evaluations of sewer capacity and industrial waste disposal for the City of Hollister as well as preparation of a sewage collection, treatment, and disposal master plan and sewer pretreatment program. Design of a tertiary wastewater treatment system for the City of San Juan Bautista. Converted a pond to a sequencing batch reactor to provide nitrification and denitrification. Supervise full operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants for the City of Hollister, the City of San Juan Bautista, and County of San Benito. Conduct various detailed reviews of feasibility and costs of on-site treatment and disposal systems. Selectand apply computers in sanitary engineering for preparation of revenue programs, treatment plant operations and maintenance databases and reports, water and sewer system capacity analyses, and various custom software applications.

Swanson-Oswald Associates, San Francisco, CA

Associate Engineer, 1980 to 1982
Project Engineer, 1975 to 1980

Project Engineer and Manager for planning, design, and construction of wastewater collection and treatment facilities, including sewers, roads, buildings, laboratories, ponds, and irrigation facilities. Operation and energy production studies at sewage treatment facilities in California and Jamaica. Various septic tank treatment and disposal systems. Planning and preliminary design of wastewater treatment and agricultural reuse of the treated effluent. Development of zero discharge industrial waste disposal method using rotating biological contactor and solar distillation techniques. Preparation of EIRs and Project Reports.

University of California, Berkeley
